Who must register, and when?
For a new residential lease, the responsibility for registration lies with the landlord. You must have the contract — together with the property condition report — registered within two months of signing. Registration is free for a main residence.
Step by step via MyRent
- Log in to MyMinfin using eID or itsme.
- In the menu, go to “my home and my real estate”.
- Click “register a rental contract”.
- Upload your lease and the property condition report, then confirm.
Registering the property condition report has been mandatory in Flanders since 2007 and must be done together with the contract.
What if you forget to register?
The consequences of an unregistered contract are significant:
- The tenant can terminate the lease without notice and without compensation.
- You lose the right to compensation if the tenant ends the lease early.
- A penalty may be charged for late registration.
A forgotten registration gives your tenant the right to leave without notice — an expensive oversight.
